How it works

Mixed Number to Improper: (Whole × Denominator + Numerator) / Denominator. Improper to Mixed: floor(Numerator / Denominator) remainder / Denominator. Simplify: divide by GCD. Decimal: Numerator / Denominator.

Inputs explained

  • Whole Number: The integer part of a mixed number.
  • Numerator: The top number in a fraction.
  • Denominator: The bottom number in a fraction (must be greater than 0).

Example

1 2/3 → Improper Fraction = 5/3 → Simplified = 5/3 → Decimal ≈ 1.667

Tips & notes

  • A mixed number has a whole number and a proper fraction.
  • An improper fraction has a numerator larger than or equal to the denominator.
  • Simplifying fractions makes them easier to work with.
  • The GCD (Greatest Common Divisor) is used to simplify fractions.

FAQs

Multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator. For example, 1 2/3 = (1×3 + 2)/3 = 5/3.

The Greatest Common Divisor, the largest number that divides both the numerator and denominator.

Divide both the numerator and denominator by their GCD. For example, 10/25 simplified is 2/5 (divide both by 5).
