How it Works

Adjusted Duration = Total Duration / Playback Speed. Effective Playback Rate = Speed × 100%.

Formulas:

Adjusted Duration (seconds) = Total Duration (seconds) ÷ Playback Speed
Effective Playback Rate (%) = Playback Speed × 100

Inputs Explained

  • Total Duration (H:MM:SS): The original media length. Find this in your video/audio player.
  • Playback Speed: The speed multiplier (0.25x to 3.0x). 1.0x is normal speed; 1.5x is 50% faster; 0.75x is 25% slower.
  • Rounding Options: Choose precision for adjusted duration and playback rate results.

Example

Scenario: 1 hour 30 minutes video at 1.5x speed

Calculation:

  • Total Duration: 1:30:00 = 5,400 seconds
  • Speed: 1.5x
  • Adjusted Duration: 5,400 ÷ 1.5 = 3,600 seconds = 1:00:00
  • Effective Rate: 1.5 × 100 = 150%

Result: The video will take 1 hour at 1.5x speed (30 minutes saved).

Tips & Notes

  • Most apps support speeds from 0.5x to 3.0x. Use preset buttons for quick changes.
  • Adjusted duration helps plan listening/viewing sessions and time management.
  • 1.25x to 1.5x is popular for faster consumption without sacrificing comprehension.
  • YouTube supports 0.25x to 2.0x; some media players support wider ranges.
  • Slower speeds (0.75x-0.9x) help with tutorials, lectures, or language learning.
  • Use target speed helper to meet deadlines or fit content into available time.

FAQs

Divide total duration by playback speed. For example, a 90-minute video at 1.5x speed takes 60 minutes. Use the calculator to avoid manual errors.

It's the speed expressed as a percentage of normal speed. 1.0x = 100% (normal), 1.5x = 150% (50% faster), 0.75x = 75% (25% slower).

Most video and audio apps support speeds from 0.5x to 3.0x. Common speeds are 0.75x, 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2.0x. YouTube supports 0.25x to 2.0x.

Yes! YouTube supports 0.25x to 2.0x speeds. Enter your video duration and desired speed to see how long it will take. Great for planning video marathons or meeting deadlines.
