How it Works

Raw feeding amounts are typically expressed as a percentage of body weight per day. We select a multiplier based on your dog's age, activity level, and goal (maintenance, weight loss, gain).

Formula:

Daily Food (grams/day) = Weight (kg) × Multiplier (% of BW) ÷ 100

For example, a 20 kg adult dog at moderate activity with 2.5% multiplier:

Daily Food = 20 × 2.5 ÷ 100 = 0.5 kg = 500 grams per day

Inputs Explained

  • Dog's Weight (kg): Current body weight. Use a scale for accuracy.
  • Age Group: Life stage affects metabolic rate and growth needs.
  • Activity Level: Higher activity = higher caloric requirements.
  • Goal: Maintenance keeps current weight; Weight Loss reduces calories; Weight Gain increases calories.
  • Advanced Options: Customize multipliers per combination, adjust rounding precision, export/import configurations.

Example

Scenario: Adult dog, 20 kg, Moderate activity, Maintenance

Calculation:

  • Multiplier: 2.5% of body weight
  • Daily Food = 20 kg × 2.5% = 20 × 0.025 = 0.5 kg = 500 grams

Result: Feed approximately 500 grams of raw food per day, split into 2 meals (250g per meal).

Tips & Notes

  • Puppies and very active dogs need higher percentages of body weight (3-6%).
  • Seniors may need slightly lower percentages (1.8-2.5%).
  • Always transition diets gradually over 7-10 days to avoid digestive upset.
  • Monitor body condition: Adjust amounts based on visible ribs, waistline, and energy levels.
  • Meal frequency: Split into 2 meals for adults, 3-4 meals for puppies.
  • BARF composition: Typical ratios are 70% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organs (5% liver), 10% vegetables/fruits.
  • Weight loss: Reduce portions gradually (10-15%) and increase exercise.
  • Weight gain: Increase portions and calorie-dense ingredients (fatty meats, organ meats).

BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) is a raw feeding model typically consisting of 70% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organs (5% liver), and 10% vegetables/fruits. It aims to mimic a dog's ancestral diet.

Adults: 2 meals per day. Puppies: 3-4 meals per day. Seniors: 2 meals per day. Split the daily amount evenly across meals.

Raw feeding can be safe when done properly with fresh ingredients, proper hygiene, and balanced nutrition. Consult your vet, especially for puppies, seniors, or dogs with health conditions. Not all dogs are suited to raw diets.
