How It Works

Your GPA is the weighted average of your grade points. We multiply each course's credits by its grade point (S=10, A=9, B=8, C=7, D=6, E=5, F/N/W/Ab=0), add them up, and divide by total credits.

Formula:

GPA = Σ(credits × grade_points) / Σ(credits)

Result is rounded to 2 decimal places.

Note: VIT's FFCS (Fully Flexible Credit System) and regulation updates can change grading letters or rules. You can edit the scale in Advanced options.

Inputs Explained

Course Name
Optional field (useful for export/share). Enter the subject name for reference.
Credits
Number of credit hours for the course. Typically 1–5 credits for theory courses and 1–2 credits for lab courses.
Grade
Choose S/A/B/C/D/E/F (plus N/W/Ab as 0 if needed). Each grade maps to specific points on the 10-point VIT scale.
Options
Treat E as pass (5 points); exclude F/N/W/Ab from denominator (follow your department handbook).
Advanced
Change grade scale, import/export CSV files, generate share links, and reset to defaults.

Example Calculation

Let's calculate GPA for a typical VIT semester with 5 courses:

Course Credits Grade Points Credit × Points
Calculus 4 A (9) 9 36
Data Structures 4 B (8) 8 32
Physics Lab 1.5 S (10) 10 15
Signals 3 C (7) 7 21
Humanities Elective 3 D (6) 6 18
Total 15.5 122

Calculation: GPA = 122 ÷ 15.5 = 7.87

Tips & Notes

  • Verify your regulation: Check your VIT campus FFCS handbook for the latest grade letters and pass rules. Different regulations may have minor variations.
  • Repeated courses: Some rules replace the earlier grade with the latest pass. Enter the attempt that counts on your transcript. Verify with your academic office.
  • Save your work: Use Export/Share to keep records and test "what-if" grade scenarios. The calculator doesn't store data permanently.
  • Lab courses: Lab courses typically carry 1–2 credits. Enable the "Include Labs" option to quickly add lab course rows.
  • FFCS flexibility: VIT's Fully Flexible Credit System allows you to take courses across different categories. This calculator works with all FFCS credit structures.

Frequently Asked Questions
