Calculate Fill Dirt Volume
Typical: 5-15%
How it Works
Volume = Area × Depth. We calculate volume in ft³ or m³, apply an optional waste factor, and convert to cubic yards or cubic meters. If you provide a fill dirt density, we also estimate metric tonnes.
Example
Area 100×2 ft (200 ft²), Depth 4 ft:
- Volume = 200 × 4 = 800 ft³
- Adjusted (5% waste) = 840 ft³
- = 31.11 cu yd
- Weight ≈ 47.0 tonnes (1500 kg/m³)

Tips & Notes
- Add a waste factor (5–15%) to account for compaction and spillage.
- Fill dirt density varies; use a local supplier's value for accurate tonnage estimates.
- Use the preset buttons for common project sizes.
FAQs
1 cubic yard ≈ 0.7646 cubic meters. The calculator does this automatically.
Around 1,400–1,600 kg/m³. Adjust based on your supplier's data.
It supports both. Choose your units for inputs and outputs.
⚠️ Disclaimer
Informational estimate only. Fill dirt density and compaction vary. Consult suppliers for accurate estimates.
