How it works

Rectangular: Base Area = Volume / Depth; Length = Width = sqrt(Base Area). Circular: Radius = sqrt((Volume/Depth)/π). Oval: Width = sqrt((Volume/Depth)/π); Length = 2×Width. Surface Area calculated accordingly.

Inputs explained

Target Volume (m³ or L), Pond Shape (rectangular, circular, oval), Average Depth, Units, Output Units.

Example

Target 15,000 L (15 m³), Circular, 1 m depth → Base Area = 15 / 1 = 15 m² → Radius = sqrt(15/π) ≈ 2.185 m → Diameter ≈ 4.37 m → Surface Area ≈ 15 m².

Tips & notes

  • Use average depth for irregular ponds.
  • For rectangular ponds, we assume a square shape for simplicity.
  • Always measure accurately for best results.

FAQs

Divide volume by depth to get base area, then derive dimensions. The calculator does this for you.

Small garden pond: ~5 m³ (surface area ~5 m²). Medium koi pond: ~36 m³ (surface area ~36 m²).

It provides an estimate. Actual dimensions may vary by shape irregularities. Measure on-site for accuracy.
